APP-solutely Obsessed

Heh heh heh, yes, I'm APP-solutely obsessed with apps! Here are my Top Picks for Photography, Life, and Play

Let’s talk apps, because who doesn’t love discovering a new one that makes life easier (or just more fun)? I’ve rounded up a few favorites from my current rotation: one for photography, one that keeps me organized, and the rest just make me happy.
📸 For Photography: Sun Seeker
This little gem is my go-to tool when location scouting. The Sun Seeker app helps me visualize exactly where the sun will be at any given time on any given day. You can get super technical with it - plug in coordinates, dates, and times - but honestly, I keep it pretty simple. I usually head to the location a few days before a session, hold up my phone, and let the app overlay the sun’s path right onto the landscape. It’s incredibly helpful, especially when I’m shooting in unfamiliar places.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes image with the app in action, with my trusty location scouting companion Queso. In this case, I needed a very specific spot & lighting to create the silhouette I imagined, so the tool was very helpful! (You may have seen these images before... I had to dig since I usually don’t keep the SunSeeker data/images.)

📝 For Everyday Life: AnyList
This one is a lifesaver. AnyList keeps all our running lists organized in one easy place, and better yet, it syncs with the whole family. Grocery list? Check (and yes, boys, add it to the list please!). Liquor store? You bet that has its own list too. We even have one for shows to watch, categorized by streaming platform, naturally. 😉
I use it for packing lists and to save campground recommendations we hear about in passing. It’s not glamorous, but it’s practical and honestly kind of a sanity-saver. I use it on the daily!
⛰️ For Exploring: PeakFinder
Speaking of camping and road trips, here’s another handy one: PeakFinder. When we’re driving around the mountains, we’re always wondering what the names of the peaks are. Enter this nifty app! It uses your phone’s camera to overlay a labeled horizon, so you can actually tell which peak you’re admiring. It’s like a cheat sheet for curious nature lovers.

🎞️ For Memory Keeping: 1 Second Everyday (1SE)
As a photographer, I’m ALL about the memories. So this one’s for the sentimental folks: 1SE, or 1 Second Everyday. Each day, I capture short video snippets (you can use stills too), and the app lets you choose your favorite second (or 1.5 seconds, which is what I recommend 😊), and compiles them into a mini time capsule.
At the end of the month (or year, or a special trip), you can mash it all together and export a sweet little highlight reel. I’ve been using it for three years now, and I love when past months pop up on my digital frame, Facebook memories, or phone. Here’s my 1SE from May 2025… it’s heavy on the dogs, of course. 🐾🤣
🎮 For Fun: Wood Away & Color Block Jam
When I need to unwind (or when I have forced downtime, like waiting on something), I turn to Wood Away and Color Block Jam. Both are puzzle games that give me nostalgic Rush Hour vibes… you know, where you slide shapes around to free a trapped piece. They’re color-coded, brain-teasing, and oddly satisfying.
I do wish the games weren’t timed (that clock adds more pressure than I’d like!), and you only get five lives at a time… but hey, that just means I switch between the two while my lives rebuild. Total addict behavior? Absolutely. No regrets. 😝
Here are their logos, so you can find them in your app store.
What about you? Have any favorite apps I should try, especially any fun puzzle games or tools that make life smoother? Drop them in the comments – I’m always looking for a new favorite!

What’s your photo editing app?
Thanks for sharing! I didn't know PeakFinder existed - downloaded! My most used app last fire season was Watch Duty. It alerts as soon as a fire starts in the area you choose around you, then you can check as often as you want for updates on size and control. Flightradar will identify air traffic and the path. For photography Lenstag to list all your equipment with serial numbers in case of theft.
