Mythbusters – Dog Photography Edition!!

Think your dog can’t have a professional photo session? Think again! There are plenty of myths that might make you hesitant to book a session, but today, we’re debunking them - Mythbusters-style!

🐶 Myth #1 : My Dog Needs to Be Well-Trained to Get Good Photos

❌ False! While a solid “sit” or “stay” can help, it’s absolutely not required. I’ve worked with wiggly puppies, high-energy zoomers, and even nervous rescues – and there’s always a way to capture their personality. With patience (and a few well-timed treats or noises), I can get the perfect shot, no obedience necessary!

📸 Myth #2: Only Certain Dog Breeds or Looks Make Beautiful Portraits

❌ Nope! Every single dog is photogenic in their own way. Whether scruffy, sleek, fluffy, or wrinkly, the key to a great portrait is capturing their unique personality. The best photos aren’t about breed standards - they’re about heart.

🌦️ Myth #3: You Can Only Get Good Photos in Perfect Weather

❌ Think again! While golden-hour sunshine is beautiful, some of the most stunning images happen on cloudy days, foggy mornings, or even in light rain. Soft, diffused light actually helps reduce harsh shadows and keeps dogs from squinting! (For more on this, check out my recent post on different lighting scenarios!)

🔗 Myth #4: My Dog Can’t Be Off-Leash, So We Can’t Do a Session

❌ Guess what? Almost all the dogs I photograph are on-leash! Safety is always the priority, and leashes can be removed in editing. So whether we’re in a park, an urban setting, or even your own property, we can create leash-free magic.

🎨 Myth #5: Professional Dog Photography is Just Taking Pretty Pictures

❌ It’s so much more! Great dog photography requires understanding canine behavior, movement, lighting, and post-processing techniques. There’s an art and a skill to creating images that truly capture a dog’s spirit. It’s about storytelling, not just snapshots.
